It was a joy-filled day for both retirees and the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE), Alimosho Local Government, as they celebrated the first anniversary in office of current leaders of the union and honoured nine retirees in grand style.
The NULGE celebrated the retirees given their unalloyed service to the council throughout their years of active service to the state.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the council, Hon. Jelili Sulaimon, said the celebration was historical as he congratulated the NULGE for given the retirees a befitting outing as promised to reward them for their efforts at uplifting the council during their active days in service.
He said, “the history of Alimosho is not complete without the names of some of the retirees. I want to commend and congratulate the NULGE chairman for putting this first of its kind programme together”.
The NULGE chairman Comrade Rufaiyat Alejo, used the opportunity to roll out the various achievements of the administration, which include, refurbishing the NULGE bus and office, welfare package for widows, providing recreational games for staff, among others.
She challenged the staff to stay focused and remain committed to discharging their duties diligently.
She said “It is time to break the bad habit of expecting something for nothing from our government or one other. Let us take responsibility, not only for ourselves and our families but for our communities and our country.”
Present at the event included Secretary to the local government, Hon. Dare Ogunkoya, NULGE chairmen of five other Local Governments among others.
