The authorities of University of Ibadan has said Azeezat Somuyiwa who was gruesomely murdered on Friday in Akinyele area of Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital by yet to be identified persons was a graduate of the Postgraduate School of University of Ibadan.
The Head of Department, Social Work, of the Postgraduate School of University of Ibadan, Dr. Y.L. Olaleye confirmed that Azeezat Somuyiwa was a graduate of the department and not an undergraduate as was widely reported in the media.
Dr Olaleye disclosed the status of Azeezat in the school as one of the best graduating students in 2019 in a memo sent to the Dean of Students, Prof. A. Abiona, on Saturday to clarify the wrong messages that were sent out earlier that she was still an undergraduate of the school.
According to the statement, the deceased graduated in the year 2019 with Master of Social Work (MSW). She studied Health Social Work and convoked in November as one of the best graduating students. The school described the incident as very sad.
The statement read: “Sir, the “student” said to be our student graduated last year (2019) with Master of Social Work (MSW). Her name was Somuyiwa, Azeezat Damilola. Her name appeared on page 172 (the list starts from 171) in the Convocation Order of Proceedings, November 2019.
- She studied Health Social Work. She was one of our best students. It is very sad.
