Buhari, Oyetola, MMPN, mourn New Telegraph’s Editor, Bakare

The media industry was thrown into sorrow on Sunday as the death of the New Telegraph’s Saturday Editor, Waheed Bakare, was broken to the world.

The devastating below thrown on the media still remains a big shock to media practitioners as they are finding place in their hearts to place his passage.

On this note, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the media industry, particularly Nigeria Union of Journalists and Nigeria Guild of Editors.

The President’s condolence message was released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Monday.

Buhari also sent condolences to the family of the deceased and management of New Telegraph Newspapers.

He described the editor’s death as a collective loss to the media and the nation that he served passionately with his talent.

President Buhari prayed Allah forgive and receive his servant, Waheed Bakare, into His paradise and comfort all that mourned him.

Also commiserating with the media industry and family of Bakare was the Osun State governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, who described his death as devastating and a great loss not only to his immediate family but also to the journalism profession in Nigeria.

Oyetola, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, commiserated with Bakare’s family, friends, colleagues, the Journalists’ Hangout family and the management of New Telegraph newspapers.

In another tribute to the late Bakare by the National President, Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Abdur-Rahman Balogun, described the deceased as a thoroughbred journalist, who was devoted to his religion. Bakare, according to him, recently took part in the financial contribution to the Covid-19 palliatives by a coalition of 55 Muslim groups in which MMPN is a member.

He said: “His death coming on Sallah day is quite painful to us as a group but we are consoled that he died as a believer and a committed Muslim.”
