For members of Inner Wheel District 912 Nigeria, Saturday 26 September 2020 will forever remain memorable as one of them, a committed and dedicated member, Mrs Rahamat Aderonke Solomon was installed as the 14th District Chairman of the club.
The Rotary Club house hall on 8, Ladoke Akintola Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos venue of the installation ceremony was beautifully designed with white and light green satin cloth materials to the admiration of all.
At the entrance of the hall was strategically placed, a beautifully designed banner with pictures of the celebrator on it for guests to pose for pictures.
The guests did not dash the hope of the organisers as they pose with the beautiful banner for pictures as they throng the venue.
The celebrator, Mrs Solomon was the cynosure of all eyes. Accompanied by her husband former Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon (GOS) walked to the venue humbly for the commencement of the installation ceremony.
While waiting for the formal commencement, DJ Bizzy dished out melodious songs to the enjoyment of all as they danced to the different music been played with admiration.
The installation of Mrs Solomon as the 14th Chairman of Inner Wheel District 912 Nigeria began on a prayer note followed by the national anthem. Members of the Inner Wheel Club took their club anthem to the admiration of everyone present.
In her farewell message, the outgone chairman of the district Mrs Olasunbo Osunbayo thanked God for the success of her administration. She equally thanked members of the club and donors for their support for the success she achieved in office.
Mrs Osunbayo also appealed to the members to extend the same support to the incoming District Chairman, Mrs Solomon to succeed in office.
The guest speaker, Mrs Abiola Aberuagba who spoke on the occasion urged all to support the incoming chairman of the District for her to achieve greater success in office.
When it was time for the official installation of the new district chairman, Mrs Solomon. She was accompanied into the podium by her husband to meet the waiting outgoing district chairman and other pass leaders of the club.
After jingling the ball by Mrs Osunbayo, the installation was conducted.
Conducting the installation ceremony, Osunbayo after minutes of talks and collaret, the symbol of office from her neck and gradually hung it on Mrs Solomon as the new chairman of the club. Once this was concluded, all took to their feet to rejoice with the installed chairman as they dance to music from the stand of the DJ.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs Solomon thanked all members for their support so far since her assumption of office.
She promised to carry everyone along in the running of the affairs of the club.
Mrs Solomon said as part of her project for the year, women health and maternal health care would be her administrative focus.
“This year we shall focus on women’s maternal health. Nigeria is rated as the second worse country to have a baby in. This saddens my heart a great deal. We shall organise programmes on maternal health. We also plan on empowering pregnant women with delivery kits to take away the burden of getting them.”
Adding “we shall also equip a few health centres with phototherapy machines baby cots and hand washstand”
She also disclosed that the youth will be given adequate attention as the club will be embarking on training them for different skills acquisition programmes.
She said: “The district shall embark on training and empowerment in various skills like tailoring, catering and confectioneries, makeup/ makeover, hairdressing, and desktop publishing, we hope that by doing this, we would have Led the Change in the area of fight against poverty to self- sufficiency.”
She specially thanked her husband for the unflinching support he has been giving her from the outset as she prayed for long life and continued prosperity for the family. She did not forget to thank her children for being there for her always.
Mrs Solomon also thanked donors and members of the club for supports she is getting as she pleaded for more support for her to walk the talk of the club’s 2020/2021 theme ‘Lead the Change’ to a successful end.
Assuring his wife of continued support, Senator Solomon conducted the fundraising section for the club. A substantial amount was raised by him for the club. All applauded the gesture of Senator Solomon for helping them raise such funds.
Senator Solomon also said given the effort of his wife in putting smiles in faces of the less privileged, he has and will continue to support her to make the journey easy for her.
“I have dashed you, Mrs Solomon, to serve the club, use her to your satisfaction,” he said jokingly.
In his words of assurance to his wife, Senator Solomon said: “Inner wheel club is a service organisation and whoever goes into it should have the spirit of service and this she has demonstrated for several years. She has a passion for it and now that she has become the chairman of district 912, the best an anyone can do for such a person is to assist her in all spheres of service that she endeavours and since she has demonstrated this, the other thing is to make sure she carry out this without hindrance. We are here to give her all the necessary support.”
The club also launched a 6 unit of computer set on the occasion to demonstrate its commitment to training youths on different skill acquisition programmes.
