Following the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) annoucement of fine of Channels Television, Arise Television and Africa Independent Television (AIT) for what it termed ‘unprofessional coverage’ of the #EndSARS protests between N2 million to N3 million, many Nigerians have taken to the social media to condemn the act describing it as stifling of the media freedom.
Of the prominent Nigerians who berate the fine is Femi Fani-Kayode who on his twitter handle at Femi Fani-Kayode @realFFK described Buhari as a dictator and fascist.
He tweeted, “Someone please tell NBC that Nigeria is not a police state & you cannot gag the press. Sanctioning & fining @AIT_Online, @channelstv & @ARISEtv for airing footage on the #LekkiMassacre #LekkitollgateMassacre only proves the fact that @MBuhari is nothing but a dictator & fascist.
“It also proves that they have something to hide.”
Daniel Alhassan @Danielalhasssan
Tweeted, “I knew it FG knows about the tollgate shooting. God will surely punish and judge Nigeria politician.”
Godswill @Godswill_ tweeted:
“I thought this NBC is independent. Oh Nigeria my country. Corruption and corrupt people everywhere.”
KAYB @AbaniwondaK also tweeted:
“When does it become a crime to report a live event? I laugh in Spanish but media can cover their independence’s day insipid speeches live. Lol.”
