FG Lists Conditions for Twitter’s Suspension Lift

The federal government has said it will lift Twitter’s suspension in Nigeria once the US social media giant submits to local licencing and registration.

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed told AFP Twitter had sought talks with the government, which last week suspended the platform’s operations in the country, saying it was used for activities threatening the country’s stability.

The Twitter suspension on Friday generated hot debate from activists and others describing it as repression of media freedoms.

The Minister however maintained that the government does not repress media freedom.

“First and foremost, Twitter must register as a company in Nigeria,” the minister said in an interview, when asked about lifting the ban
