Group condemns killing of policeman in Lagos, calls for arrest, prosecution of perpetrators

….. urges Governor Sanwoolu to be firm on regulation of Okada business

A group, Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) has condemned the killing of a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Kazeem Sumonu Abonde by hoodlums in Ajao Estate, Isolo area of Lagos state.

The group said the killing is a condemnable act and can lower the morale of the entire police force in the state.

It called on the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to be firm on the regulation of the business of motorcyclists in the state.

This view was expressed on Saturday by the Executive Director of CAIDOV, Comrade Gbenga Soloki in a press release he signed, stating that the killing of a senior police officer or even a policeman on their legitimate assignment is a threat to security of life and property in the state.

The group called on the Lagos state commissioner of Police, Mr Hakeem Odumosu to immediately put in motion process of fishing out the killers and bringing them to book to serve as a deterrent to others in future.

According to CAIDOV “the killing of CSP Abonde by suspected Okada riders calls for serious concern on the part of everyone in the state and even beyond. The gruesome murder of a senior police officer will ultimately demoralize other officers in the discharge of their lawful duties in future. So we are appealing to the commissioner of Police to set up a crack team of experts to as a matter of urgency unravel those behind the dastardly act, only the apprehension and prosecution of the criminals will restore the confidence of the police .”

Continuing “it’s also germane to advise the governor to be firm in regulating the activities of the motorcyclists in the state. The lawlessness of these set of people must be speedily dealt with to restore sanity on our roads.”

“Finally, we wish to commiserate with the entire police force on the unfortunate incident and appeal that diligent investigation be done to be able to bring to book those who murdered the late CSP.”
