By Saheed Afolabi

A Sports pillar and philanthropist in Mushin, Lagos, Wasiu Olasunkanmi Rauf, who is popularly known as Headboy among his contemporaries and lovers was honored with a novelty football match on his birthday June 12 at Olu Aina street, Igbowu mini stadium.

The match was won by Capo FC who defeated Headboy And friends 2-1. Headboy was particularly happy with the victory for Capo FC and appreciated all supporters and friends who came out en mass for the game.

Headboy appreciated Capo for standing by and honoring him.

Speaking with newsmen, Headboy detailed how he got the name ‘Headboy’.

“I went to Ire- Akari primary school, it was when I was in primary 6 that was when they named me head boy, the name followed me when I got to Matori Secondary School till now that I am an adult.”

Headboy described how happy he was with the game, which was used to honor him.

“Today is the happiest day in my life and a good surprise to me because I wasn’t expecting it, I was just called this morning to come to the football field, when I came here I saw its my friends and my lovely friends who loves me dearly to the heart that came out to show me love on my birthday and I really appreciate them for it.

“The way people are playing the match and the turnout of supporters is just giving me unlimited joy and happiness, because this time last year it was not like this and we hope next year will be more than this by the grace of God, may God continue to give us long life.”

Headboy also advised youngsters in the grassroots to put more effort and not relent in their dream.

“They should put more effort and not relent, when I was in Olohunishola street in Mushin, I have sponsored several footballers outside the country for greener pastures and they are all doing well in their respective professional clubs. The footballers in the grassroots should never relent because the likes of Okocha, Kanu, Obafemi Martin’s and Ndidi are people like them. Raheem Lawal is a great product of Mushin and more players will be produced from Mushin by the grace of God.

“By the grace of God, I will put more effort in supporting and sponsoring grassroots football to encourage the players to be better and for them to achieve their aim.”
