Inner Wheel District 912 Nigeria fetes elders with food palliatives

At least no fewer than 25 elderly women and men in Ikorodu smiled home with bag full of food packages as palliatives presented to them by the Inner Wheel Club District 912 Nigeria.

The raw food package consist of rice, beans, noodle, salt sugar, milk and tea among other home necessities.

It was an unexpected joy for the elderly as many of them never thought they would be given such, to them, they came for the club’s flag off of adult literacy program which will enable over 200 adults in Lagos and Ogun, areas covered by Disctrict 912 of the Inner Wheel Club, to become literate after the six months program.

The Chairman Inner Wheel District 912 Nigeria, Mrs Ronke Solomon, said the gesture to give food to the elderly along the flag off of the literacy programm was borne out of her concern for their plight being elders and couple with the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The decision to give this food palliatives is borne out of my concern for their plight, looking at the situation the country is now orchestrated by the coronavirus, we know everything is not easy for the people especially the elderly ones, so we choose to assist them to put food on their tables,” she said.

Mrs Solomon said with the club’s theme ‘lead the change’, she is determined to ensure activities and programmes that will touch lives of the less privilege will be vigorously pursed by her.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Muritala Adijat thanked the club for the the food package.

“We thank the Inner Wheel District 912 for this kind gesture, I never expected this, we are happy with what they gave us, with this, we will be able to eat in the house at least for the next one week,” she said.
