A group of youths in Kosofe Constituency II has protested against the choice of Mr. Femi Saheed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate to contest the bye-election into the Lagos House of Assembly.
According to the youths, the choice of Mr Saheed is a wrong one claiming that the right candidate for the post is Hon. Sina Bilesanmi aka Ojueko.
Hon Bilesanmi contested in 2019 with late Hon. Tunde Braimoh who won the primary election then.
In a protest message made available to newsmen, the youths led by comrade Lateef Fadare said Sina Bilesanmi has done so much for the constituency to deserve the post.
According to them, there was no proper consultation before the name of the acclaimed person to be the candidate to represent the party was agreed upon by some few members of the party in the constituency.
It would be recalled that the death of the former member representing Kosofe Constituency II at the Lagos House of Assembly, Hon. Tunde Braimoh, has created a vacuum, which necessitated a bye election.
Hon. Tunde Braimoh died of Covid-19 on the 10th of July, 2020.
Since his demise, many aspirants have been showing interest to occupy the position, making consultation across wards in the constituency.
Initially, a group under the banner of the Kosofe Youth Movement had alleged plans by some top politicians in the All Progressives Congress to impose candidate on them.
In a statement titled “Kofofe Contituency II: We Stand Against Imposition of Candidates” and signed by the group’s spokesperson, Comrade Lateef Fadere, the group appealed to the leadership of the party to desist from imposing candidate on them and allow them to choose their own candidate.
It was reported that the APC Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) has settled for Mr. Femi Saheed as the party’s candidate for the bye-election slated to hold on 31st of October.
The GAC is the highest decision-making body of the Lagos APC whose decisions are often backed by the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is the Chairman.
However, the youths claimed that they were in the best position to choose the right candidate having monitored the contributions of each aspirant to the development of the constituency.
Meanwhile, the youths especially those who are loyal to Hon. Bilesanmi claimed that he is the best candidate among other aspirants based on his achievements in the constituency.
According to them, Sina Bilesanmi, apart from working as a civil servant in Lagos State Government, Lands Bureau for more than score, has helped many youths in the constituency to secure government jobs both at the state and federal level.
Some of his achievements listed by the group include supporting the youth empowerments, security, education and so on.
Bilesanmi, who is the immediate past Youth Ambassador for Kosofe Youths Movement (KYM) of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), was said to have single handedly fought the once rampant youth restiveness and killings in Ketu area of Lagos State.
As the current National President of the Association of Telephone, Cable TV and Internet Subscribers of Nigeria (ATCIS), Bilesanmi was said to have led the association in the forefront of agitation for the implementation of Pay-As-You-Go for the Pay TV companies such as MultiChoice, Startimes and others to the national assembly.
They also mentioned that the aspirant mobilised the over 198.8 million members if the association to ensure that President Mohammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osibajo emerged victorious at the 2019 presidential election, the same he did for the late Senator Sikiru Adebayo Osinowo.
They therefore appealed to the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other party leaders to reconsider their choice of candidate to represent the party at the coming bye-election.
