Nigeria’s former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has debunked his purported withdrawal from the 2023 Lagos West Senatorial District contest.
Obanikoro said he remains the aspirant to beat in the race for the Lagos West Senatorial District primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)
The senator in a statement by his Special Assistant, Sulaimon Adebiyi said the report which was published in independent.ng and operanewsapp.com as not only false in its entirety but also unfounded and baseless.
He said; “the Campaign Organization stated that there is no truth whatsoever in the report. As a matter of fact, the 2-time Minister, Senator Obanikoro has undergone screening as a Senatorial aspirant and was cleared to run in the APC primaries, culminating in the general elections.
“There was no time and there will be no time, Senator Obanikoro contemplated nor announced his withdrawal from the race, especially as it is as clear as daylight that he is the choice of the people. Opposition members who know they stand no chance whatsoever in the forthcoming elections and their payjobbers are the ones concocting all sorts of lies but they have failed”
“We attended the screening of aspirants yesterday and it was an easy ride. Our popularity among the teeming populace is sending some shivers down their spines and that is why they are looking for anything to hold unto as they are fast sinking, politically”.
Adding; “we are consulting with our legal team as we intend to take serious legal action against the reporter, news medium and everyone involved in this shameful and unprofessional conduct. We shall stop at nothing at ensuring that all these ‘jeun-jeun’ journalists and news medium stop tarnishing people’s hard-earned images. In its interest, the news medium should within 48hours publish a retraction of the report, else legal actions will be instituted against them”.
“We, therefore, urge Lagosians and indeed Nigerians to disregard this report as not only unfounded, baseless but false in its entirety.”
