The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has announced postponement of the proposed resumption of schools earlier announced by the state government.

This is against the earlier directive given by the state government some weeks back, that all terminal classes including Primary Six (Pry 6), Junior Secondary School Three (JSS3) and Senior Secondary School Three (SSS3) should resume on June 29, ahead of preparations for their various exams.

According to a source within the Makinde-led administration, the change in plans became imperative in view of a latest expert report which indicated the non-readiness of schools in terms of meeting the various government protocols.

This came after the federal government, including chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have criticized the plans to reopen schools amid the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

According to the new arrangement, only teachers are to resume on June 29th while students in terminal classes resume a week later.
